Apple is set to launch its first batch of Home automation accessories in June 2015. It will be compatible with Apple Inc.’s software platform.
HomeKit is a set of tools in Apple’s iOS 8 Software designed to work with smart home devices. The idea is that Apple could turn the iPhone or iPad into a command system for the various smart-home devices like thermostats, garage doors and locks. There would be a “common protocol” to help devices talk with each other and link securely with an iPhone or iPad.
Apples spokesperson confirmed that they have dozens of partners who are committed to bring Homekit accessories to the market. Apple’s statement followed a report from Fortune that first HomeKit enabled devices will not be available before August or September this year.
