Leading by example is something that Mark Zuckerberg truly believes in. As most of you would know, that Mark and Priscilla were blessed with a baby girl, Max, last month.
The couple wrote a letter to their newborn titled ‘A letter to our daughter’. In the letter, they talked about a range of things and issues that our generation face and the future they hope to give to Max and children of her generation. Among other things, the two important points that they focussed on were – Advancing Human Potential and Promoting Equality.
They couple said,” this mission — advancing human potential and promoting equality — will require a new approach for all working towards these goals.” It is only by focussing on these two things, we’ll be able to achieve better future for generations to come.
Advancing human potential is about pushing the boundaries on how great a human life can be.
Can you learn and experience 100 times more than we do today?Can our generation cure disease so you live much longer and healthier lives?Can we connect the world so you have access to every idea, person and opportunity?Promoting equality is about making sure everyone has access to these opportunities — regardless of the nation, families or circumstances they are born into.
Our society must do this not only for justice or charity, but for the greatness of human progress.
Can our generation eliminate poverty and hunger?
Can we provide everyone with basic healthcare?
The letter further said, “As we begin the next generation of the Chan-Zuckerberg family, we also begin the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative.” The initiative will focus on personalized learning, curing disease, connecting people and building strong communities.
To support the initiative, they pledged to donate 99% of their shares — currently about $45 billion — during their lives to advance this mission. Though, he expressed his desire to remain as the CEO of Facebook for years to come. You can read the entire letter .
