As everyone knows, corruption is rampant and deep rooted in India’s economic system. For most of your jobs related to government offices, you have to pay a certain bribe to the officials to get your work done. A lot of times people really don’t have a choice but to resort to paying bribes to the officials to get their work done on time.
5th Pillar is an organization which came up with the concept of Zero Rupee Note which helps you fight corruption in a non-violent way. Let’s have a look at some of the facts about the Zero Rupee note.
1. It resembles Indian currency note of Rs 50. But there are some important differences between the two notes. You will find an anti-bribery pledge written on it – “I PROMISE TO NEITHER ACCEPT NOR GIVE BRIBE” and instead of Reserve Bank Of India which is written on a 50 rupee note it says “Eliminate corruption at all levels.”
2. It is a polite way of saying that I cannot bribe you and I don’t have the money to bribe you.
3. It is also referred as a non-violent method of non-cooperation against bribery. It gives power to the powerless and voice to the voiceless.
4. Over 3 million such currency notes have been distributed and good impact has been observed by people using it in terms of getting their job done easily.
5. It was founded by 5thPillar, a Non-Profit Organization in 2007. The entire objective of forming this organization was refusal of Indian citizens to be part of bribery system.
6. You can also report the complaint to 5thPiller if the govt. official fails to do your work. They will further help you in filing a Right to Information or a complaint to the vigilant department about the official’s inability to perform their duties.
