On 13 October 2015, Madhya Pradesh Government opened up a centre in Central Jail Indore which will train women inmates on various courses to become a beautician. The effort has been initiated by the government of Madhya Pradesh keeping in view the self-employment opportunities these women will have once they are released from the prison.
The centre was inaugurated by District Collector P Narhari. On the occasion, Mr. Narhari said that the state government has launched a slew of schemes to empower women and under which the centre has been set up in the prison.
“Training will be imparted to these women through city-based Regional Vocational Training Institute for Women,” Manjula Tiwari, Deputy Director, Woman’s Empowerment Department, said who was present at the event.
Kudos to such a great initiative by the government of Madhya Pradesh.
Prior to this, another great initiative was started by Ludhiana Women’s Central Jail in 2011. They started a program in association with Central Institute of Post Harvest Engineering and Technology (CIPHET) aimed at teaching the technology to make powder out of ginger and garlic to the women so that they can generate self-employment opportunities for them once released from jail.
