Being a villain and a hero is a matter of choice by the director of the movie. But what sets them apart from the rest is their acting and depth into the character. Having said that, take a look at some Bollywood movies where the Villains were far better than the heroes.
1. Gabbar in ‘Sholay’
I don’t think I need to say anything more. That’s his Magnum Opus. Performing alongside well established actors like Sanjeev Kumar, Dharmendra was a difficult task, yet Amjad Khan played this role brilliantly. This is by far the best villain produced by Bollywood movies.
2. Mogambo in ‘Mr. India’
Though Amrish Puri played each of his character in movies with perfection but this one’s really special. ‘Mogambo Khush Huya’ is one of the few dialogues that is still popular as it was 28 years ago.
3. Rauf Lala in ‘Agneepath’
Sanjay Dutt as Kancha Cheena was good. But one character who stole our hearts was none other than Rauf Lala, essayed by Rishi Kapoor. He got more than 5 awards for this role.
4. Ajay in ‘Baazigar’
A film that can be credited as the breakthrough movie in SRK’s career. In fact, this was Shahrukh’s first movie where he played a negative character. And, the rest is history.
5. Bhiku Mhatre in ‘Satya’
A lot of you may not know that Manoj Bajpayee landed this role after director Ram Gopal Verma saw his performance in Bandit Queen. Being a new comer in the industry Manoj Bajpayee completely nailed it. He still owes his success in Bollywood movies to Ramu.
6. Lajja Shankar Pandey in ‘Sangharsh’
If there’s anyone who terrorized us in our childhood, it was Ashutosh Rana’s portrayal of Lajja Shankar Pandey. We all had a lot of sleepless nights because of him.
7. Langda Tyagi in ‘Omkara’
Despite of powerpacked performance by all actors, there’s one name that you took back home from the theatre. And, you know it. Langda Tyagi ‘Bahubali’… Langda Tyagi ‘Bahubali’
8. Ballu Balram in ‘Khalnayak’
“10 October, rat ke 10 baje, Ballu Balram jail se bahar.” Enough said.
9. Shakaal in ‘Shaan’
Kulbhushan Kharbanda captured the imagination of the nation with his portrayal of Shaakal and the way he feeds the people he doesn’t like to sharks. The sinister smile only made it more terrifying!
10. Babu in ‘Road’
How offering a lift to a stranger can become a complete nightmare for you especially, when the stranger is Manoj Bajpai. A lot of you may not have seen the movie but watch it for Manoj. He makes it a lot more entertaining for you.
11. Liak in ‘Badlapur’
Nawaz with his sly and manipulative persona has the ability to outperform any protagonist in the movie. This one’s surely a great watch.
12. Dhoom Series
The negative characters in the entire Dhoom series not at all look like the real villains. They are smart, trendy, handsome and brilliant. They can surely kill women with their looks. John, Hrithik & Aamir – all were exceptional.
13. Dr. Anukul Guha in ‘Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!’
After a long long time, Neeraj Kabi came out as a villain that feared the hell out of you. He played it with utmost perfection. Now I understand why this role was initially offered to Aamir Khan.
