Virender Sehwag, also known as India’s best opening batsman, announced his retirement on Tuesday from all forms of international cricket and Indian Premier League. The announcement came on his 37th Birthday following the rumours around his retirement.
I hereby retire from all forms of international cricket and from the Indian Premier League. A statement will follow.
— Virender Sehwag (@virendersehwag)
Sehwag later sent his farewell message on Twitter. In his letter, he thanked everyone on-field and off-field for their immense support and hoped he has been able to make the game memorable for everyone. He ended his farewell message in style just like his batting attack on the field – “I also want to thank everyone for all the cricketing advice given to me over the years and apologise for not accepting most of it! I had a reason for not following it; I did it my way!”
With his aggressive batting style, Sehwag in his more than a decade-long career attracted millions of fans across the globe including our Bollywood stars, international cricketers etc. As soon as the news about his retirement broke out, twitter was filled sadness and a great tribute on his retirement.
Will miss you on the field yaar . U r the gentlest coolest & bravest of sportsmen I have ever come across. Love & health to u
