With just a fortnight left for the new year, microblogging site Twitter released the list of top trends, the most retweeted tweets & most followed personalities for India in the year 2015.

With 18.4 million followers, Amitabh Bachchan remains the most followed celebrity in India followed by Shah Rukh Khan and PM Narendra Modi at 16.5 & 16.4 million followers respectively. Now, let’s take a look at what were the top trends on Twitter in India for the year.

5. #DDLJ20Years

When DDLJ turned 20 this year.Fans from across the world shared moments, images, dialogues from the movie. The hashtag garnered about 140,000 tweets.

4. #SaalEkShuruaatAnek

It was the PM Modi’s first year as Prime Minister of India. His year on Twitter saw unique engagements with citizens and global leaders, and he has used the platform to enforce e-governance and digital diplomacy. The hashtag garnered over 179,000 tweets.

3. #BiharResults

When one of the largest Indian states went to Polls earlier this year. There were about 260,000 tweets on the polling day.

4. #SelfieWithDaughter

When PM Modi kickstarted a campaign to promote the rights of the girl child. The campaign resulted in over 370,000 tweets.

5. Finally, #IPL

The top trend on twitter India during the most popular T20 cricketing tournament in the world garnering over 9 million tweets.

 

And now, the golden tweet of the year 2015 by none other than SRK when he posted a selfie with British Singer Zayn Malik with over 141,000 retweets and nearly 18.3 million views globally.
