Its a moment of joy for this family in UP’s Pratapgarh District where both sons cleared Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) for admission to the most prestigious institutions in the country. It is a complete moment of happiness for Dharamraj and his family. His sons Raju (18 years) and Brijesh (19 years), put up a brilliant performance for JEE ,which is said to be the most toughest exam of the country, and were ranked 167 & 410 respectively. They performed against all odds and set up an example for a lot of people in the country.
Dharamraj, who hails from Pratapgarh district in UP, but works as a daily wager in a factory in Surat in Gujarat, hardly manages to fend for his family of seven. But, the father is less delighted and more worried. For the admission, they are required to pay an admission fee and first semester fee, amounting to a lakh.
“Double shift work in Surat gets me Rs 12,000 a month. Things were smoother when the boys got admitted to Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya at Pratapgarh. They bagged scholarships to prepare for their IIT entrance. But now what? Where to raise the money from? I don’t own a single inch of land,” Dharamraj told TOI.
Sulabh International’s founder and social worker Dr Bindeshwar Pathak said he would take care of all financial liabilities in the admission and education of both the brothers. Other who supported the brother were Human Resource & Development Minister Smriti Irani who quickly reacted on the matter and waived off the admission fees, with an added scholarship to cover tuition, hostel and mess charges.
