Maharashtra Sex Workers Donate ₹1 Lakh For Chennai Flood Relief. But How They Did It Is Commendable.

In recent past, we have seen a lot of celebrities came out to donate money for Chennai Flood relief including SRK and Rajnikant. People from every walk of life showed solidarity towards the people of Chennai and contributed in their own ways. But this one is unique. A group of sex workers from Ahmednagar district in Maharashtra donated ₹1 lakh to for Chennai flood relief.

They used to skip 2 meals a day so that they can collect money and contribute to the relief work in Chennai. And despite their daily struggle with abusive clients, common violence and the myriad health issues associated with their profession, agreeing to skip 2 meals a day is something nobody would be willing to do.

Since the time they came to know about the deluge in Chennai, these women were restless and wanted to do something for the victims of the calamity. 2000 out of 3000 sex workers made a contribution to the fund making it a total of ₹1 Lakh. They handed over the check to the district collector Anil Kawade at an event organized by NGO Snehalaya, said Girish Kulkarni, founder Snehalaya.
