76 households of Naro Ka Kheda Village, 25 Km away from Udaipur, won’t have to sleep in darkness anymore. All thanks to the project done by 24-year-old Prabh Singh, a student of Durham University Business School, UK.
“The happiness and the amazement which I saw in those villagers’ eyes after they used electricity in their house for the first time is unmatched to any professional accomplishment that I could ever imagine achieving,” he said in an interview with Huffington Post.
Prabh originally hails from Delhi and wanted to become an investment banker. But, destiny had something else planned for him.
Inspiration of his Project
He often spoke to his classmates about the availability of Solar Panels on eBay and how people in Britain lived off the grid during their fishing trips.“If it can be used in the west, it can also be used in my home country as well,” he said.
That’s how Project Kiran was born. On 23rd July 2015, the first house in the village was electrified.
Funding of the Project
The Rs 700,000 project cost was crowdfunded by villagers and North East Centre for Technology Application and Reach (NECTAR), a government of India society.
Prabh Singh now has plans to take this initiative to other Indian villages as well. Currently, he is in discussions with Indian central government agency to replicate the same model in 50 other villages with the same kind of revenue and service mechanism.
India needs more people like Prabh. Kudos to his great efforts.
