5 Times When People Changed Their Profile Picture on Facebook

In old times, it was very difficult of news channels and traditional media houses to create awareness about anything that required global attention. The audiences were very limited and the main challenge was to get new people.

Things have changed now. Thanks to booming social media which evolved the ecosystem for news and media industry. It is very easy now to promote an event, garnering support for a cause and showing disagreement over anything. Be it fighting Aids, creating awareness about an event or supporting the LGBT community. It now a cake walk for media houses.

And, this support is reflected from the profile picture of the users. Let’s take a look at the times people changed their profile pics to support an initiative.

1. Digital India

The recent one when Mark Zuckerberg changed his profile picture to support PM Modi’s Digital India vision ahead of the Townhall Q&A at their office. It was later acknowledged by Modi who also showed his support by changing his profile picture.

2. Marriage Equality

This was in support of same-sex marriages when people changed their profile pic to the color of a rainbow. Mark Zuckerberg initiated by changing the color of his profile pic which was followed by millions of people on facebook. Even White House showed solidarity.

3. To end violence against children

A campaign to support and end ongoing violence against children by changing the DP to a cartoon image. The effort received huge appreciation by people and the media.

4.  To support World Cancer day

The initiative was started by Chevrolet when the auto manufacturer urged people to change the color of their display picture to purple to support the cause. For every change in a picture, Chevrolet donated $1 to the American Cancer Society.

5. To stop Rape 

It was a shock to humanity when the Nirbhaya incident happened. It was a shameful and a heinous act. People changed the profile pictures to a black dot which signified that we all responsible for the act and condemn the same.
