He is one of those few people in the industry who is mostly remembered for the characters that he plays in movies. Even if it’s the character of Pinky from The Shaukeens, Nasir Ahmed from Gangs of Wasseypur, Dhingra from Rockstar, Prithvi Bana from Gulaal or Majeed Khan from Tere Bin Laden you would remember all his characters. Hats off to his talented artistic skills.
Let’s have a look at some of the things about Piyush Mishra’s life that most of us don’t know about:
1. A man of limitless talent. To this day, he is considered to be the most versatile artist in Bollywood Film Industry.
2. His real name is Priyanksha Sharma. He was adopted by his father’s elder sister who had no children. He got this name changed in Class 10th by filing an affidavit.
3. Piyush Mishra is one of those few people who followed his heart right from the beginning of his career. His father admitted him to a Convent School assuming that he would excel in academics, but it was activities like acting, singing & painting which fascinated him.
4. Growing up in an authoritative family helped him develop a rebellion attitude which clearly showed up in his first song which he wrote in Class 8th and songs penned by him later:
“Zinda ho haan tum koi shak nahin, saans lete hue dekha maine bhi hain
Haath aur pairon aur jism ko harqatey khoob dete huey dekha maine bhi hain”
5. He graduated from National School of Drama in 1986 and started a theatre group with director NK Sharma and stage actors like Manoj Bajpayee, Gajraj Rao and Ashish Vidyarthi.
6. He made his film debut with movie ‘Dil Se’directed by Mani Ratnam. He was recommended for this role by Tigmanshu Dhulia (famous for movies like Paan Singh Tomar, Haasil & Sahib, Biwi Aur Gangster) who was the casting director of the movie.
7. He was considered for the lead role in the movie Maine Pyar Kiya by Sooraj Barjatya. He never made an effort for some reason.
8. He penned the lyrics for the song ‘Are ruk ja re bande’ which went on to become the most popular song by Indian Ocean also featured in the movie BlackFriday.
9. He wrote dialogues for “The Legend of Bhagat Singh,”; it won him the award for the best Dialogue at the Zee Cine Awards.
10. His lyrics always has a social element of change which talks about modern day scenario, politics etc. and raises a question about ways things are approached here. Some of his finest lyrics include – Jab sheher humara sota hai (Gulaal), Are ruk ja re bande (Black Friday), Sarfaroshi ki tamanna ab humare dil mein hai (Gulaal).
11. Despite a troubled childhood and a morally weak past, he has been able to overcome not just his bad habits, but also evolved as a caring family man.
