When nature calls, how quickly do you answer? Immediately, Right. Letting loose—that is to say, urinating in public—is always a literal option but usually it comes with a price tag. The penalties vary significantly by country, even by city.
When I was writing this article, I wasn’t sure if Delhi should’ve appeared in this list. Legally, there is a fine involved for urinating in public even in Delhi also but I haven’t seen anyone paying for it. The list is in increasing order of fines by cities.
1. Berlin, Germany
No Fine
Public urination in Berlin is completely legal. However, it seems a bit easier to pull it off if you’re man. Like most peeing-in-not-a-bathroom ventures, really. It’s considered slightly rude, but there’s no law against it.
2. New Delhi, India
100 Indian Rupees
The practice of imposing fines in Delhi started in 2011. The proper checks must be conducted by the related authorities in order to ensure that people are fined for urinating in public.
3. Manila, Phillipines
600 Indian Rupees
Any violators caught have the choice to pay a fine or complete eight hours (“one day”) of community service. The penalty is the same for urinating, spitting, and defecating.
4. Paris, France
2400 Indian Rupees
If you can hold yourself for some more time till you find a suitable place, you can easily take a nice bottle of wine for the dinner.
5. New York, US
3000 Indian Rupees
Among those most often caught violating public urination laws are cab drivers.
6. Brighton, England
7500 Indian Rupees
Sussex Police officers ask nearby businesses to lend out cleaning equipment for violators to literally mop up their pee pee mess and public shaming is nobody’s favorite.
7. Seattle, Washington, US
7500 Indian Rupees
Until 2013 there was no fine. But now if you are found peeing in public – you might put yourself in danger of scoring a hefty fine.
8. Dubai, UAE
8000 Indian Rupees
In 2012, the city of Dubai increased the number of personnel authorized to dole out tickets for public urination law violators. They are very much concerned about their city.
9. Madison, Wisconsin, US
11000 Indian Rupees
This huge Midwestern college town actually fines the same for public urination as it does for underage drinking—two offenses that probably go hand-in-hand with astounding frequency.
10. Queensland, Australia
15000 Indian Rupees
The Sunshine State of down under has the legal explanation of what exactly constitutes as public urination:
“In a proceeding for an offence [sic] against subsection (1), evidence that liquid was seen to be discharged from the vicinity of a person’s pelvic area is enough evidence that the person was urinating.”
11. Brussels, Belgium

Brussels went hard in 2012 when working to remedy poor street conditions. For an Indian, it could be someone’s monthly salary.
