“Mandir, masjid aur shivala ne baant diya bhagwan ko, nadiya baanti, sagar baante, ab na baanto insaan ko,” Says S Ahmed from Kanpur who is proudly celebrating Janmashtami Festival for last 29 years. He is an ardent follower of Lord Krishna and believes that religion should not come in the way of love and bonding towards anyone. In a quest to strengthen the bond of love and togetherness between Hindus and Muslims, Ahmed celebrates all Hindu festivals.
Ahmed along with his wife and three children celebrates Janmashtami every year and performs all rituals related to it. “Idol of Lord Krishna is placed in a swing and after the birth at midnight, Hindu and Muslim neighbours gather around for devotional songs, dance and exchange gifts,” Ahmed told TOI.
When asked about his inspiration he mentioned about Dawa-Sharif, shrine of a popular Sufi saint, where people come in huge numbers irrespective of their religion. Similarly, all people gather at my place and celebrate Lord Krishna’s birthday, he mentioned during the interview.
People like Mr. Ahmed are setting up examples about how people from different faiths can coexist and also share each other’s happiness. A true Indian.
