I have never been to Bengaluru, but I am pretty sure that auto drivers behave in the same way there as they do in Delhi. Especially, when it comes to overcharging fare from any and every customer. Amid all this, there is an auto driver who not only charge fairly but also winning hearts of his passengers in Bengaluru. Yes, you got it right!!
Meet Mr. G.C.Shivakumar. Auto driving may be the only thing he does for a living, but it is not the only thing he does to win hearts of passengers. While most of the auto drivers overcharge their customers, he offers discounts to students, senior citizens and relatives of military personnel. His auto rickshaw has all the amenities that one can think of. It includes a full-fledged library, first-aid kit, pictures and quotes of eminent writers and artists.
Shivakumar, who took up auto driving in 1993 after watching a movie Auto Raja, believes that he is merely doing his duty. And not only that, he’s won more than 31 awards, most of them from Bengaluru Police, for his honesty in returning the valuables of passengers. Just a sight at his auto leaves passersby awestruck who even click selfies and post on facebook and other sites.
When asked about his popularity he said, “My passengers have made me famous. I sometimes feel like Aamir Khan or Salman Khan just by the way people treat me.”
Now, let’s take a look at some other role that he plays other than being an auto driver.
1. An Artist
You will be astonished to know that Shivakumar turns a Radio Jockey twice a week and hosts a show. He’s also written more than 1500 poems.
2. A Philanthropist
Mr Kumar helps students from the lower economic background by providing books and uniforms worth Rs. 1 lakh each year. He started Gurukul Sewa Trust to help the poor, but meritorious students. He strongly believes in the right to education and thinks that society is the representation of a student-teacher relationship.
Kudos to such a thinking. People like you make our country proud.
