Over the last 68 years since both India and Pakistan became independent, we have seen fewer moments when both countries were in agreement with each other over any topic. Be it politics, international agenda, diplomatic relations etc. Of late, Pakistan has banned a lot of Indian movies due to a number of reasons.
Just to give you a backdrop, Pakistan imposed a ban on Indian movies since 1962 and in the hope of cultural and art exchange between the two countries the ban was lifted in 2006. But, there are some movies which couldn’t see the light of the day in Pakistan despite the removal of the ban.
Take a look at some of the movies that Pakistan banned in last decade.
1. Lahore (2010)
The movie attempted to settle the differences between the two countries through a series of kick box matches. But some dialogues didn’t play well in the hands of Pakistani censor board.
2. Tere Bin Laden (2010)
The movie suffered because it featured a look-alike of Al Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden. The Pakistani censor had no objection with the content of the movie, but they assumed it could give a wrong idea to the extremist groups.
3. Dirty Picture (2011)
The censor board in Pakistan couldn’t handle the bold scenes featuring Vidya Balan who portrayed Sex siren Silk Smitha.
4. Delhi Belly (2011)
Delhi Belly could not see the light of the day in Pakistan because of its lewd and abusive content. I think the film offered too much of maa-bhen for the censor board which was difficult for them to handle.
5. Khiladi 786 (2012)
The movie managed to get a release in Pakistan after it changed the name to Khiladi.
6. Agent Vinod (2012)
The movie showed Pakistani spies and high commands allying with Taliban in planning a bomb attack in India. The ban was expected.
7. Ek Tha Tiger (2012)
Upon banning the film Pakistan censor board VC Muhammad Ashraf Gondal said that the movie hit Pakistan’s security agencies. They found the movie against it’s institutions and hence banned it.
8. Bhag Milkha Bhag (2013)
The only reason it got banned in Pakistan was a dialogue by Farhan Akhtar where he is asked to participate in Asian Games, Pakistan and he replied “Mujhse nahi hoga, mein nahi jaonga.”
9. Raanjhanaa (2013)
The censor board couldn’t digest a Muslim girl falling in love with a Hindu boy. It was quite shocking to hear the movie got banned for such an absurd reason.
10. Haider (2014)
As the movie is based on Kashmir which has been one of the biggest controversial issues among the two countries was bound to be rejected.
11. Baby (2015)
The movie was about combating terrorism. Pakistani censor board banned it saying, “the Muslims are shown in the negative light.”
12. Phantom (2015)
Pakistan’s Jamaat-ud-Dawa leader sought a ban on the movie even before it was presented for screening. The movie was later banned by Lahore High Court.
13. Bangistan (2015)
Ritesh Deshmukh starrer BAN-gistan deserved a ban according to the censor board because it offended Hindus and Muslims living in Pakistan.
14. Calender Girls (2015)
The recent flick by Madhur Bhandarkar faced a ban because of some objectionable dialogues in the movie.
