The painting was created by French artist Paul Gaugin in the year 1892 and was sold in February this year, reportedly to Qatar Museums at a whopping price of $300 Million making it the most expensive painting ever sold. It was created by Gaugin on his first travel to Tahiti. The painting includes women dressed up in Tahitian clothes.

2. The Card Players, Price – $259 Million+ or ₹1560 Crore+

The painting was created by a French artist Paul Cezanne in the year 1892/93 and was sold in April 2011 to the Royal family of Qatar. The entire series consists of 5 paintings. All portraits depicted peasants deeply involved in the game and smoking their pipes.

3. No. 6 (Violet, Green and Red), Price – $186 Million or ₹1116 Crore

The painting was created by an American painter Mark Rothko in the year 1951 and was sold in August 2014 to the Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev. It is believed that it was the highest ever price paid for a work by an American artist.

4. Pendant portraits of Maerten Soolmans and Oopjen Coppit, Price – $180 Million or ₹1080 Crore

This painting was created by a Dutch artist Rembrandt in the year 1634 and was sold in September 2015 to a museum in the Netherlands. This was painted on the occasion of the wedding of Maerten Soolmans and Oopjen Coppit.

5. Les Femmes d’Alger (Women of Algiers) (“Version O”), Price – $179.4 Million or ₹1076 Crore

This painting was created by a Spanish painter Pablo Picasso in the year 1955 and was sold in May 2015 to the Prime Minister of Qatar. It is part of a series of 15 paintings and inspired by an 1834 painting titled “The women of Algiers in their Apartment.”

6. Nu Couché (Reclining Nude), Price – $170.4 Million or ₹1022 Crore

This painting was created by an Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani in the year 1917 and was sold this month to a Chinese businessman Liu Yigian. According to sources, this is the highest ever price paid for Modigliani’s painting. This painting was also part of his first exhibition which was shut down within hours of opening because of nude paintings.

7. Le Rêve, Price – $155 Million or ₹930 Crore

This painting was created by Pablo Picasso in the year 1932 and was sold in March 2013 to an American billionaire Steven A. Cohen. The painting depicts Pablo’s, then 50-year-old,  22-year-old mistress Marie-Thérèse Walter. It was first purchased in 1940 by Victor and Sally Ganz at a price of $7000.

This painting was created by an American Painter Jackson Pollock in the year 1948 and was sold in November 2006 to a guy named David Martinez. It was created on fibreboard and was damaged during its first shipment to Alfonso Ossorio.

9. Woman III, Price – $137.5 Million or ₹825 Crore

This painting was created by a Dutch-American expressionist artist Willem De Kooning in the year 1953 and was sold in November 2006 to Steven A. Cohen. This was part of a series of 6 paintings which were painted between 1951-1953 where the central theme was a woman.
