While travel remains one of the major expenditures for heads/ leaders of different countries but there are some of them who chose to lead by example. Have a look at these charismatic personalities and modes of transport used by them to travel to work.
1. Mark Rutte, Prime Minister of The Netherlands
He travels by his bicycle most of the time. For official trips outside of the country, he has to take faster means of transport like a jet or a flight.
He was commonly known as “The poorest president in the world.” It’s not that he was not given any perks and benefits of being a president, but he refused to accept that lifestyle and led a simple life. He travelled by his old Volkswagen Beetle.
He travelled by his bike to work but had to drop the idea because of security reasons. But, he was still seen riding his bike on streets followed by his bodyguards from a distance.

4. Thomas Sankara, Former President of Burkina Faso (1983-87)
When he was in office, he gave up his entire Mercedez fleet and travelled by Renault 5, which was one of the cheapest cars during that time. He was also known as Africa’s Che Guevara and did a lot of work to have equal rights for women.
As soon as he took over the responsibilities as the president of France in 2012, he announced that he would travel by train within France and for some important meetings in other countries of Europe.
During his tenure, he declared every Wednesday as the ‘Bus Day’ or ‘Public Transport Day’ in order to cut costs & save fuel. On 9th October 2013, he travelled to his office by Delhi Metro.
