7 Shocking Laws Against Women Around The World Which Clearly Shows India Is Better Than A Lot Of Countries

I always thought that India is the worst country when it comes to gender equality and women empowerment. But while writing this article, I realized that how life can become a hell for you if you are born in any of these countries.

Have a look at these pathetic laws and be the judge yourself.

1. A woman is only considered as half a witness in court
Countries: Yemen, Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iran etc. and some other Islamic Countries

In most of the cases, women’s testimony is unacceptable. In some cases, if two women testify alongside one male witness, then it  could be acceptable. But all this depends on the type of case. There are different laws against testimonies in different Islamic countries.

2. Women are not allowed to drive
Countries: Saudi Arabia

There have been several protests about this law in Saudi Arabia. In  fact, a lot of Saudi women has jumped behind the wheels to protest but this hasn’t changed anything till now.

3. Women can’t vote
Countries: Saudi Arabia & Vatican City

These are the only two countries where women can’t vote. In 2011, Saudi women protested this law but to no avail. In fact, human rights are most violated in Saudi Arabia especially laws pertaining to women.

4. Rape victims can be charged with crimes
Countries: Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Afghanistan, Republic of Ireland & Somalia

Instead of protecting a rape victim, these countries go in insanely opposite directions by punishing them. Sometimes they are even forced to marry the rapist. In 2013, Somali police jailed a 27-year-old woman who accused Somali security forces of rape. She was jailed for insulting the government and making what the government called a “false accusation.”

5. Women can’t work in the night
Countries: Madagascar, Algeria, Austria, Bangladesh etc. and many more

Although these countries have legislations prohibiting the employment of women workers during the night. But the legal regulations differ from country to country.

6. Women can be jailed for miscarriage
Countries: El Salvador

After so of pain and trauma caused during the miscarriage, Salvadorian women have to fear about being jailed. In2013, a woman was charged with aggravated murder and sentenced for 10 years of imprisonment and she didn’t even knew she was pregnant.

7. Women can’t leave the house without their husband’s permission
Countries: Afghanistan & Yemen 

In both these countries, a man has the law on his side if he chooses to restrict his wife from leaving the house. However, there are certain exceptions to this rule.
