Japan To Build India’s First Bullet Train. This Is Something That We Can Expect From Japanese

In a breakthrough decision, Indian cabinet on Wednesday cleared ₹98,000 crore Japanese proposal to build India’s first bullet train which will run between Mumbai and Ahmedabad. The feasibility test for this 505 km long corridor was completed in July by Japanese Internation Cooperation Agency.

The decision comes ahead of Japanese Premier Shino Abe’s visit to India this Friday. Shinkansen System had the best safety record with no fatalities in addition to the fact that delays on a trip did not exceed a minute, NITI Aayog vice-chairman Arvind Panagariya told TOI.

With this, Japan takes the lead over China which is also looking forward to expanding their railway footprints globally. However, this doesn’t rule out the opportunity for China to participate in future projects. The selection of the partner would depend on favorable financing options.

While the feasibility studies for other high-speed rail corridors is still underway, we present some pictures of how India’s first bullet train might look like.
