Indians are everywhere and there is no doubt about that. And, it becomes a proud moment for us sitting in India when people from our country bring a good name by showing their competitive skills and leadership in their respective areas. “It’s not a not a surprise that we’re seeing Indians rise in corporate ranks,” says Richard Herman, co-author of a book on migrants to the U.S., Immigrant, Inc.
Let’s have a look at some Indian people who rose to the top position of leading global companies with their hard work, perseverance and leadership.
1.Shantanu Narayen
CEO, Adobe Systems
Born in Hyderabad, Shantanu holds a bachelor’s degree from Osmania University and an MBA degree from the University of California. He joined Adobe as a Senior Vice president of worldwide product research in 1998. Later he was promoted to executive vice president of worldwide products and then as a CEO in 2005.
2. Satya Nadella
CEO, Microsoft
Born in Hyderabad, Satya did his schooling at Hyderabad Public School, engineering at Manipal and then went on to do Master’s in Computer Science at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. Later he received an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He’s been working with Microsoft for last 24 years and was appointed as the CEO last year.
3. Indra Nooyi
CEO, PepsiCo
Born in Tamil Nadu, Nooyi studied Post graduate diploma in management from IIM Kolkata and then master’s degree from Yale. Nooyi joined PepsiCo in 1994 and was named president and CFO in 2001. In 2006, she became the fifth CEO of PepsiCo. Forbes ranked her as the third most powerful woman in 2008.
4. Nikesh Arora
CEO, Softbank Corp.
After completing his bachelor’s degree from IIT (BHU, Varanasi) he went to US for his master’s degree from Northeastern University. He worked with Google for ten years at senior leadership positions and then moved out as the CEO of Softbank.
5. Ajay Banga
CEO, MasterCard
He is an alma mater of Delhi University and IIM Ahmedabad. He spent 15 years of his life working for companies like Nestle and Pepsi. In April 2010, the board of directors named him as the CEO & president of MasterCard.
6. Rakesh Kapoor
CEO, Reckitt Benckiser
Born in Bareily, Kapoor holds a bachelor’s degree from BITS and an MBA Degree from XLRI Jamshedpur. Kapoor joined the company in 1987 and served different roles within the organization before becoming its CEO in 2011.
7. Punit Renjen
CEO, Deloitte
Punit has been working with the company for almost 30 years. Renjen is chief executive officer of Deloitte Global. Previously, he served as chairman of the board, Deloitte LLP (U.S.), and prior to that, chairman and CEO of Deloitte Consulting LLP.
8. Ivan Mendez
CEO, Diageo
Born in Pune, Kapoor holds a bachelor’s degree from St. Stephens College, Delhi University and an MBA Degree from IIM Ahmedabad. He joined the Diageo in 1997 and served at various senior positions before becoming its CEO in July, 2013.
9. Sanjay Mehrotra
CEO, SanDisk
He holds a bachelor’s and a master’s degree both from the University of California, Berkeley. Mehrotra co-founded SanDisk in 1988 and has served as president and chief operating officer since June 2006. He previously served as executive vice president and chief operating officer, senior vice president of engineering and many other positions within the company.
10. Sundar Pichai
CEO, Google
Born in Chennai, Sundar graduated from IIT Kharagpur and went on to pursue his masters from Stanford and then an MBA Degree from Wharton. In a blog post yesterday, Google Co-Founder announced massive restructuring of the company, instituting Sundar Pichai as the new CEO of Google moving him and Co-Founder Sergey Brin to a new Company called Alphabet.
