Hingis Proved To Be A Lucky Mascot For Indian Tennis In 2015

Martina Hingis seem to be a lucky mascot for Indian tennis team in 2015. She successfully teamed up with Paes and Sania. The team together won 5 grand slam titles. This is indeed a great news for Indians. In fact, this is for the first time than Sania has won any grand slam title in Doubles category and while for Leander it is the ninth mixed doubles grand slam title with three coming from this year only.

Let’s have a look at the achievements of Indian Tennis Team in this year.

1. Hingis & Paes
Tournament – Australian Open/ Title – Mixed Doubles

They defeated defending champions Daniel Nestor and Kristina Mladenovic by 6-4, 6-3. It was a grand slam debut for both of them.

2. Hingis & Paes
Tournament – Wimbledon/ Title – Mixed Doubles

It was an easy win for the duo. It took just 41 minutes to win the tournament with 6-1, 6-1 victory. They defeated Alexander Peya and Timea Babos.

3. Hingis & Sania
Tournament – Wimbledon/ Title – Women’s Doubles

It was the first women’s Wimbledon championship for Sania.  They defeated a rather strong Russian pairing of Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina in a match spanning for a little over two and a half hours. This was the first win for Hingis in this category since 2002 – Australian Open.

4. Hingis & Paes
Tournament – US Open/ Title – Mixed Doubles

This tournament recorded history with Paes becoming the most successful player in this format in the Open era. They defeated Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Sam Querrey with 6-4, 3-6, 10-7.

5. Hingis & Sania
Tournament – US Open/ Title – Women’s Doubles

This is the most recent win which concluded yesterday with Hingis and Sania taking over the women’s doubles title in US Open after defeating Casey Dellacqua and Yaroslava Shvedova in less than one hour and fifteen minutes.
