8 Times Govinda Proved He Is The ‘King’ Of Comedy

Born as Govinda Arun Ahuja, Govinda is also known by his nickname, Chi Chi. A name that is synonymous comedy, humor, and energy. He ruled the film industry in the 90s with his fantastic comic timing and perfect dancing skills. David Dhawan soon identified his comic skills as an actor and went on to direct him in more than 16 movies and most of them were comedies and became big hits.

Till date, Govinda has appeared in more than 150 movies and has entertained movie-goers for over two decades. I don’t know about thrillers and dramas, but comedy is definitely his cup of tea. We would like to present some of his movies that prove he is definitely a ‘King’ of comedy.

1. Aankhen (1993)

To my knowledge, this was the first comedy movie by David-Govinda duo which paved the way for other superhit comedies to come. I can still dance to the number ‘Oh lal dupatte wali tera naam to bata’.

2. Raja Babu (1994)

Everything was perfect about this movie. Light hearted comedy movie with great performances by all actors with a special mention for Nandu Sabka Bandu.

3. Coolie No. 1 (1995)

Undoubtedly, one of his best actings till date. This movie was a worth watch, thanks to the wonderful chemistry between Govinda and Kader Khan.

4. Hero No. 1 (1997)

An amazing love story where the son of a wealthy businessman agrees to become a servant at his beloved house in order to remove confusion between both families. Some great moments between Govinda and Rakesh Bedi will surely have you ROFLing even today.

5. Dulhe Raja (1998)

This is one of my personal favorites. It is because of his superb acting skills he gets along really well with his co-actors.

6. Haseena Maan Jayegi (1999)

Did you know that this was Govinda and Sanjay Dutt’s fourth movie together but apparently the most successful out of all.

7. Hadh Kardi Apne (2000)

I still can’t count how many roles and disguises did Govinda play in this movie.

8. Partner (2007)

This movie only reinforced his image as the king of comedy. Govinda also won the award for best actor in a comic role for this movie.
