As we all know about the sorry state of affairs of medical infrastructure in India. A lot of people die every year because of poor medical facilities. Especially, when a large part of the population is living on less than $2 a day, it becomes even more difficult to afford medical treatment.
Even worse, when a person dies when he/ she is not able to reach hospital for the treatment because of traffic which, in most of the cases, is unwilling to give space to a racing ambulance.
The state government of Karnataka has issued strict orders to the Road Transport Department and the police to cancel the license of those who halts the passage or try to overtake an ambulance in an emergency.
“Traffic is a menace on city roads. It’s a tough task for ambulance drivers. If other motorists don’t give ambulances the right of way, it becomes worse for drivers. Hence, we are thinking of cancelling the driving licence of motorists who come in the way of ambulance movement. Directions have been issued to police and the transport department about this,” Karnataka Chief Minister Siddramaiah said in an interview with .
The government is going to add 150 new ambulances to a strong fleet of government run 711 ambulances.
