9 Signs That Prove Diwali Is Coming

Diwali, as you all know, is one of the most important Hindu Festival which is also known as the ‘Festival of Lights’. It is celebrated throughout India by all communities and ethnic groups at large. The feeling that you get when Diwali is closer is really awesome – there is happiness all around. People distributing sweets, exchanging gifts, shopping, decorating their houses. All these things mark the arrival of one of the most vibrant Hindu festival.

Having said that, there are certain things that most people start doing before this festival which signifies that the festive season is here.

1. Fire Crackers

I remember when we were kids we would start firing crackers 3-4 weeks ahead of the festival.

2. Distribute Sweets

Nobody likes to get stuck  in a huge traffic on the Diwali day. Therefore, people start distribution sweets to their relatives, colleagues, friends a couple of days before the festival.

3. Leave Application 

Most people go home during this festival. They apply leave in advance to ensure that their leaves are approved by their bosses.

4. Office Gifts & Bonus

Time for some money. On this day you feel that your hardwork for the company is not a waste. The employer appreciates your work in form of some really cool gifts and Diwali bonus. Usually, it’s a month’s salary. Kya baat hai… :)

5. Clean the house

Not even a single place in the house is left uncleaned. No matter how dusty your house has been throughout the year but no excuses on Diwali. Some people even get their house white washed.

6. Shopping

That’s where the big money is spent. Shops, malls, bazaars are all flooded with people before the festival. Most common items bought include clothes, precious metals, utensils etc.

7. Prepare A Wonderful Rangoli

I am really bad at doing a rangoli. I always end up taking help from my sister or our new neighbors.

8. Lighting the house

Diwali signifies the removal of darkness from our lives. How can it be complete without lighting up your house like a palace? You get to see some really colorful and amazing lights all around.

9. Worship Goddess Lakshmi

Worshipping Goddess Lakshmi (Goddess of Wealth) is an important ritual. People offer prayers to the goddess on Diwali as well as on Dhanteras, which is two days before Diwali. This day is an important day for the business community and people buy precious metal like Gold, silver etc. to celebrate it.
