In a breakthrough decision, AAP-run Delhi government is all set to provide government jobs to 6 acid attack survivors in the Health Department. From a total of 33 resumes submitted to the Health department, 6 were selected based on their qualifications.
Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) Chairperson, Swati Maliwal had met the Health Minister, Satyender Jain, last month and handed him the resumes for employment within their department. She even organized a meeting between acid attack survivors and the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, even before becoming DCW chairperson, earlier this year, but it wasn’t very fruitful.
Besides this, DCW is also working with Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on another initiative to rehabilitate sex workers at G.B. Road in Delhi. Initially, 50 sex workers will be identified who are willing to give up prostitution and detailed proposal about rehabilitation will be worked out between DCW and CII.
Kudos to Delhi government for such a brilliant initiative. A great step towards empowerment of acid attack survivors.
