This is the strangest border story ever. Dahala Khagrabari was an Indian enclave spread over an area of 1.7 acres in the district of Cooch Behar in the state of West Bengal until 1 August 2015. It was an Indian enclave located within a Bangladeshi enclave which was located within India which was located within Bangladesh. Confused.. Right??
Dahala Khagrabari was completely inside a Bangladeshi village called Upanchowki Bhajni, which was inside an Indian Village known as Balapara Khagrabari, which was inside Debiganj in Bangladesh. Which means if you travel down the straight line this is how you would go – India, Bangladesh, India, Bangladesh, India and so on. I sincerely feel sorry for the person who drew this line of territory. Maybe the person was drinking the whole night or high on drugs. Some stories also suggest that Kings during early times transferred their properties after losing the game of chess.
This tiny Indian enclave has now been ceded to Bangladesh. When Modi went to Bangladesh earlier this year and papers were signed about ongoing border disputes between Indian and Bangladesh. Including Dahala Khagrabari, there were 161 other enclaves of which 111 were Indian enclaves that went to Bangladesh and the remaining Bangladeshi enclaves came to India.
