India is a country which is full of diversity & traditions. Where do you find so many cultures mixing together and marking unity of a different kind? Yes, there are differences and we’re definitely not a perfect country but there are certain things we do that we’re immensely proud of and certain things we are really embarrassed about.
Lets have a look at a couple of things which Indians are best at (including myself), in comparison to people from other countries.
1. Bargaining
This is an art that all of us have. We obviously learnt this from our elders and especially women of the family when they take us shopping. “Bhaiya rate sahi lagao nahi to tange tod dungi”.
2. Whistling in a movie theatre
Even if the movie is good or bad, we get our money’s worth everytime we enter a movie theatre. Whistling and clapping to songs and dialogues are quite common in India.
3. Play Cricket without stumps
Cricket is not just a game. Its a religion and the entire country in over obsessed with this game. While playing you don’t need the entire kit. A bat and a ball are literally enough for you to rejoice.
4. Use washroom the Indian way
Now, this is a secret we dont want to tell anyone. We like our ancient style of going to toilet. Its not that we don’t have toilet papers, its just the way we are. Its not that we can sit on it, but we prefer it in our style.
5. Eating food with bare hands
You should also try this incase you haven’t. Eating food with bare hands tastes even better.
6. Dance
I am not talking about professional dancing. We Indians can dance to any damn music and be proud about it. Even if we look like a chicken flapping its wings. Here (laugh-gag alert!):
7. Adaptability
You will find Indians and more importantly Indian-owned businesses in almost every country in the world. We as a community have our own influence and clout every where. We can adjust anywhere.
8. Jugaad
There is no denial that Indians are kings of Jugaad aka innovation. Jugaad literally means an improvised arrangement or work-around, which has to be used because of lack of resources. Check our previous article on things that can only happen in India.
9. Hospitality
Based on the principles of “Atithi Devo Bhava” the one trait you will find common in maximum Indians is a warm and hospitable nature .A ready smile on the face,people always willing to go out of the way to help somebody, exuding genuine happiness upon meeting a person takes many by surprise.
10. Extravagant Weddings
Nobody does it better than us Indians. Forget quiet dinners, forget sophisticated toasts. We have bands, baajas, baarats and barrel-loads of fun. India is famous all over the world for the ‘Big Fat Indian Wedding.’ Various Hollywood celebrities have come to India only to get married. This list includes the likes of Elizabeth Hurley, Katy Perry and Heidi Klum.
11. Pissing in public
There is nothing good about it. But this must be changed.
12. Dharna/ Protest
Though this is a very old phenomenon. But just a new flavor is added with new entrant in politics – Mr Arvind Kejriwal who has only one way of expressing anything – DHARNA.
