A name that needs no introduction. A lot of film critics and experts refer him as one of the finest actors in Indian cinema. Not only in Bollywood cinema, he has proved his mettle as an actor in Hollywood movies also.
Hailing from Jaipur, Maqbool actor has more than 20 awards to his credit. Without any further delay, let’s take a look at some of the amazing facts from his life that we bet you didn’t about him.
1. His real name is Sahabzade Irrfan Ali Khan. Because of his disliking towards his long name, he started removing words from his name which eventually got reduced to just Irrfan.
2. His belonged to the feudal class, a family of zamindars. His mother was a peaceful and a spiritual lady and his father ran a tyre business and liked going for hunting in the Jungle.
3. His father used to tease him by saying ‘he is a brahmin born in a Pathan family’ just because of his disliking towards eating non-vegetarian and hunting.
4. Upon his selection in National School of Drama (NSD), he told his mother than after graduation from the college he would get a job of a lecturer. Because his mother’s worry about him was to get a job and so, he gave this version of the story to his mother.
5. He had a shy and an introvert nature during school. On one of the occasion, he was asked to sing in a competition and he could not utter a single word during the competition.
6. For those who don’t know about the admission criteria for NSD – the institution requires at least 10 play/ theatre certificates as one of the criterias for admission. Surprisingly, he faked all of them and still got selected.
7. During his struggle as an actor, he used to take inspiration from the likes of Manoj Kumar and Naseeruddin Shah.
8. In his first Bollywood movie Salaam Bombay, his role was cut short during production because of his long height.
9. He appeared in more than 5 Hollywood movies including The Amazing Spiderman, Life of Pi and the most recent one The Jurassic Park.
