There are many countries who have faces of women on their currencies. They are placed there because of their achievements and work done in the past. These ladies adorn the currencies and make it more beautiful. We often exchange currencies but sometimes even don’t notice the faces on them. Here, we have listed 15 countries that feature women’s faces on their currencies.
1. South Korea features Shin Saimdang.
Shin Saimdang is a writer and poet who is featured on the country’s highest denomination banknote 50,000 won bill of South Korea.
2. New Zealand features Kate Sheppard.
Kate Sheppard is featured on kiwi’s 10 dollar bill. Queen Elizabeth II appears on 20 dollar bill of New Zealand.
3. Australian currency has Queen Elizabeth.
The Australian currency has different women on different notes. They have Queen Elizabeth II on $5 bill, writer Dame Mary Gilmore on $10 bill, businesswoman Mary Reibey on $20 bill, Edith Cowan the social worker on $50 bill and Dame Nellie Melba on $100 bill.
4. Rachel Bluwstein adorns the currency of Israel.

Fatma Aliye Topuz is on 50 lira note of turkey. She was a novelist, columnist and women’s right activist. She died in the year 1936.
7. Corazon Aquinto on Philippines currency.
Corazon Aquino is the wife of prominent Senator Benigno Aquino Jr. She was the first female president of the Philippines and the first woman president of Asia. Her image was featured after she died in 2009.
8. Sweden features two ladies.
It’s a surprise to learn that Sweden has woman face on their currencies. On the note of 50 Krona, Jenny Lind has her face. She is an opera singer. And on 20 Krona, they have featured Selma Lagerlof, who is a first female writer who won the Nobel Prize for literature.
9. Queen Zenobia has her face on the currency of Syria.
Queen Zenobia is the third-century ruler of Palmyrene Empire. She is famous because of her revolt against the Roman Empire.
10. Eva Peron featured on Argentinian Peso.
She is the subject of musicals, movies, and feminist lore, and she served as first lady of Argentina. She was the second wife of President Juan Peron.
11. Sacagawea featured on American Dollar Coin.
The United States has no bill with a woman yet but this dollar coin featuring Sacagawea. Between 1804-1806, she helped Lewis and Clark to explore the western half of the United States. She was the Shoshone guide.
12. Local woman featured on Central African Franc.
By featuring an average woman, currency defies the unspoken “rules” of bank notes. Central African Francs also have local peoples, plants, and animals that gives more egalitarian message.

Indira Gandhi was the fourth prime minister of India who is also featured on the Indian coin.
14. Larysa Petrivna Kosach-Kvitka is on Ukraine’s bill.
Larysa Petrivna Kosach-Kvitka’s image can be seen in Ukraine 200 hryvnia. She was a great poet and human right activist who died in 1913. She is also known as Lesya Ukrainka.
15. Queen Elizabeth II and Jane Austen are featured on British Pound.
Queen Elizabeth II is on every British currency either it is a coin or bank note. In the year 2013, the UK central bank announced that novelist Jane Austen will be the new face of the 10-pound note.
